On Thursday 13th October Year 4 visited the Literature Festival. We listened to a talk by John Dougherty in the morning and we attended a workshop with the poet James Carter in the afternoon.
John Dougherty started by reading to us from his new book about the Greek God Zeus. It sounded like a humorous book and we are looking forward to reading it when we move onto our topic ‘It’s All Greek to Me!’ in the Spring term.
We were allowed to ask questions and Stella was chosen from the audience! She asked John what his favourite story of all time was; he thought for a long time but replied that if he had to choose it would be ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. John was exciting to listen to, he had boundless energy and his past life as a teacher clearly showed.
He then shared some of the poems he had written and talked about each of his books he has had published. The grand finale of his talk was a song he had written about badly needing the toilet and not being allowed to leave the classroom...we all nearly wet ourselves laughing!! We had a fabulous time and were inspired to start day dreaming...
