Take a Seat

Pull up a pew and find out more about Year 4’s exciting new Art and Design project, ‘Take a Seat.’ So far we have sketched various chairs and made collages of all the different types of seats we could find.
On Wednesday 25th January we were fortunate to have a chair designer and craftsman come to visit year 4 to share some of his amazing designs. Mr Preece’s designs included a chair inspired by ‘Lord of the Rings’ and a set of special wedding chairs based on the designs of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
We learnt about the process of designing chairs that included the drawing, cutting and preparing of the wood and eventually joining the pieces together to create a masterpiece! The children greatly enjoyed having the opportunity to sit on these special chairs and to feel the different materials used to create them.
Both classes asked some searching questions and we are all now inspired to design our own chairs for Greek Gods.
