Year 2 Visit to the Cheltenham Literary Festival

On Friday 3rd October, Year Two went to see James Mayhew at the Cheltenham Literature Festival.  James has written lots of children’s books and he told us that his sister gave him the inspiration for one of his favourite characters; Katie, who falls into famous paintings and goes on adventures.

He demonstrated how he sketches his characters using inks and paints and while he was sketching he was telling us exciting stories too.  Sofia Ibbitson, in class 5, was lucky enough to be chosen to ask James a question at the end of his talk.

We were so inspired by him that we came back to school and created our own version of Seurat’s painting ‘Sunday Afternoon’ using the Pointillism technique; it is on display in the Key Stage 1 library if you would like a closer look!
