Patterns

In English this week, the children have been spotting the patterns in different poems, looking carefully at the structure and following it to write their own poem.

The first poem we looked at used adjectives to describe an animal. Here are a few examples of poems from Lime Class.

As I was walking by Isabelle Hammond

As I was walking down the road, I saw a dog,
A loud dog,
A loud, soft dog,
A loud, soft, spotty dog,
A loud, soft, spotty, fast dog,
A loud, soft, spotty, fast, excited dog,
I nearly jumped out of my skin!

As I was walking by Hamish Stuart

As I was walking down the road, I saw a tiger,
A stripy tiger,
A stripy, fierce tiger,
A stripy, fierce, scary tiger,
A stripy, fierce, scary, unstoppable tiger,
A stripy, fierce, scary, unstoppable, pouncing tiger,
I nearly jumped out of my skin!

The second poem we looked at used verbs to describe the actions of animals.

Walking round the zoo by Oscar Bloomfield

Walking round the zoo,
What did I see?
A lion that pounced
And roared at me!

Walking round the zoo,
What did I see?
A penguin that splashed
And winked at me!

Walking round the zoo,
What did I see?
A parrot that squawked
And flapped at me!

Walking round the zoo,
What did I see?
A monkey that laughed
And pointed at me!
