Year 3 Local History Walk

Year 3 had lots of fun and fresh air on Monday, going for a walk around the local area to learn about how the area has changed over time. We walked through the allotments and learnt that they used to belong to the Church and were mostly orchards. We went to Mrs Evans’ cottage and found out how it had been added to over time as well as finding the old well in the garden. We walked past where a moat used to be then found out about the lych gate at St Peter’s Church. We also found graves belonging to soldiers who died in the First World War and Reverend Gary showed some of us the oldest grave in the churchyard. On the way back to school, we stopped at the war memorial and learnt that it was made of stone from the quarry and that it used to be the site of the village well. What an enjoyable and interesting trip.
