A Team Football Match 26.11.18
6th December 2018Leckhampton10:2 Richard Pates
This challenge was our Mount Everest: in order to progress to the next round of the Cheltenham schools football competition, Leckhampton had to not only beat Richard Pates, but do so by a seemingly impossible 12 goals. We all had faith in our team, but were aware of the task ahead. The team were urged to win the ball back as quickly as possible, and shoot with positivity. This plan seemed to work at first, as Leckhampton moved into the lead after only 4 minutes. However, that is where the goal-scoring ended as disappointingly, no more goals were scored by half time. Whatever we tried, the ball just wouldn’t get past the impressive Richard Pates goalkeeper! The half time team talk saw no dejection or quit in the eyes of the team, and we came out in the second half all guns blazing! After 5 minutes of the second half 4 more goals had been scored by Leckhampton and the impossible seemed possible. It wasn’t to be, however. The mountain proved too great, but the heads of our players could be held high. The boys in green didn’t admit defeat for a moment, and tried their hearts out until the last second. For this we should all be immensely proud of what they achieved.
Congratulations on your thrilling performance, Leckhampton!
