Black History Month
3rd November 2016In the UK, October is recognised as Black History Month. Here at Leckhampton, we dedicated the final week of our half term to increase the awareness of and celebrate the achievements of black people, both in the past and those making history today.
Across the school, many different famous people were researched and the children enjoyed learning about the amazing achievements of these individuals. Topics such as slavery were also covered and some of the children even created their own freedom quilts. Some of the famous faces studied included Mary Seacole, Martin Luther King, Barack Obama, Usain Bolt and Nelson Mandela.
We were also lucky enough to meet Adrian, who brought the Notting Hill Carnival to Leckhampton, introducing us to some of these famous people through an entertaining performance.
Here are some photos of his performance and some of the work created over the week.
