Essential First Aid Courses
15th November 2011St John’s Ambulance – Essential First Aid Course
Friday November 4th 2011 – Leckhampton School
I was one of twelve adults who signed up to attend this 3 hour first aid course put on by St John’s Ambulance. The course dealt with serious conditions and incidents, and was aimed at people wanting to know what to do when faced with an emergency involving a casualty of any age.
The course covered emergency life support procedures for adults, children and infants:
- Communication and casualty care.
- Looking after yourself and the casualty.
- Adult, child and infant resuscitation.
- Treatment of severe bleeding, chest pain and an unconscious casualty.
- Treatment of choking in adults, children and infants.
We all found it extremely useful and the enthusiasm of the course leader Jim Jones shone through. He quickly put us at ease and shared his wealth of knowledge with us in a fun and informative way. The course involved both theory and practical elements – we all had a go at CPR, putting people in the recovery position and tying bandages and slings!! At the end of the session we all ended up as qualified first aiders with certificates that last for 3 years. I highly recommend this first aid course, three hours very well spent.
