Gloucestershire Wildlife Quiz

The Gloucestershire Primary Schools Wildlife Quiz has been running since 1976 and typically has between 100 and 120 schools taking part. This year our first round opponents were The Richard Pate School and we were proud to host them at Leckhampton CE Primary School.

The team this year was Ben Gilchrist, Lottie Maurice, Matthew Smith and James Pearne from Year 4. I would like to thank Ms Grover and Mrs Maurice for working with the children over the last few weeks to help prepare them for this. The quiz consists of 5 rounds including individual questions, picture and specimen rounds.

After the first round the teams were level on points with each pair answering confidently. Richard Pate went slightly ahead in the second round with what we thought were the easier questions! The remaining three rounds were very evenly matched with the children performing magnificently to achieve a final round score of 31. Unfortunately, Richard Pate ended with 35. Mr Bob Lawson, who was the quiz master, congratulated the team as being the only one so far who correctly identified the teasel. The good news is that Leckhampton may go through to the next round as one of the highest placed losers.

Mrs Maurice provided squash and biscuits for both teams at the end and helped the children return my classroom to normal. Thank you.

Well done to all participants.
