Key Stage 1 Sports and Skills Morning

All Key Stage 1 staff and children thoroughly enjoyed their Sports and Skills morning which took place on Wednesday 25th May.  We were blessed with warm, dry weather which was an excellent start to the day.

On this special morning each child took part in a ‘carousel’ of athletic activities designed to develop their running, throwing and jumping skills.  Every child was placed into one of four teams: Badgers, Foxes, Butterflies or Kestrels.  These team names represent the wildlife found on Leckhampton Hill which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.  There were 3 rest stops within this carousel where the children were provided with water and a well deserved break!  Every child worked as part of a mixed age group team with ages ranging from 5 to 7.

At the end of the morning the fastest runners from each team in Year 1 and Year 2 ran in sprint races to earn additional points for their teams.  All the children competed with great determination and made it very difficult for the staff who were acting as place judges!

It was lovely to see the school field brimming with parents, siblings, grandparents and friends all supporting and encouraging their children.  Thank you all for coming.

The overall winning team for 2011 was ‘Kestrels’ who were presented with a trophy at the end of the morning by Miss Porter.  Every child who took part in the Sports and Skills Morning made a medal during the day which they proudly took home at the end of the day.

Finally a special thank you to Class 13 who supported the staff brilliantly in running the various activities and to Mrs Oakey who was tasked with collating the final scores.
