Spring Term Sports Report
6th May 2016The Spring term saw an extremely busy sporting calendar with a fantastic number of children taking part in a wide variety of sports and competitions. Here are just a few of the highlights from last term’s sporting calendar.
House Cross-Country
This year, saw the inaugural House Cross-Country competition here at Leckhampton. The event was held on the school field and over 120 children took part. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and everyone was very excited and hoping their house would win. In total, there were four different races: Year 3 & 4 Girls, Year 3 & 4 Boys, Year 5 & 6 Girls & Year 5 & 6 Boys. The races were enjoyed in great spirit and after everyone had competed, this year winners were…St. David! Well done to everyone who took part.

Tag Rugby
On the 4th March, Mr Seeley took a boys tag rugby team to a tournament at Cheltenham North RFC. The tournament was seen as a really important practice for the district event later in the year. The boys really enjoyed themselves and played some very good games of rugby. Everyone had a great run out and it really helped to get us ready for future tournaments. Now we were ready for anything!

Netball
Over the Spring term, the Leckhampton netball team played 3 matches. The team won 2 and lost 1. In our first match, we won 30 – 1 against Glenfall and in our second game we won 15 – 0 against Lakeside. Sadly, we lost our third game 9 – 5 against Grangefield. Overall, it has been another very good season for the Leckhampton netball team playing 4 matches and winning 3 of them.

Football
Leckhampton’s football teams have enjoyed another full season of training and matches. Once again the A, B and Girls’ football teams have been lucky enough to play lots of great, fun football.
Through good coaching, hard work and great commitment all of the teams have made good improvement as the season progressed. The A team scored some cracking goals and qualified for the final league stages of the District competition. The B team played lots of impressive games and finished the season unbeaten, scoring more than forty goals! The Girls’ team also enjoyed great success and finished joint winners of the Warden Hill competition and 3rd in the District Cup.
Thank you to Mr Carbin, Mr Cook and Mr Slade for their massive effort and the time they’ve given up to help everyone enjoy lots of great football. Thank you also to the parents for their fantastic support and transport to all of the fixtures.
