The Great Leckhampton Bake Off!
16th December 2016Over the past few weeks seven budding bakers have been busy creating a variety of delicious Christmas treats in Cooking Club. As well as having lots of fun and acquiring new culinary skills, each baker has produced an impressive hamper packed with goodies including a beautifully iced and decorated Christmas cake, marzipan fruits, sausage rolls and mini rice crispy Christmas puddings.
Here are some of the children’s own thoughts about the experience:
Cooking Club is one of the best clubs I’ve been to because you learn lots of different techniques. It’s good to compare what you’ve got at the start to what you’ve got at the end and when I see the result I just want to eat it all straight away! (Hannah)
I’ve enjoyed Cooking Club because you come across lots of new foods that you haven’t heard of before. I especially enjoyed making the Christmas cake because it was exciting to make and I’ve never tasted one before. (Josh)
My favourite thing was making sausage and sage rolls because it was fun learning how to make pastry and squeezing the sausage out for the filling. (Cheyenne)
Cooking Club was a very good experience and we have learnt to make all sorts of delicious things like Christmas cakes and sausage rolls. My favourite bit was making the marzipan fruits. (Jacob)
I was very proud of my Christmas fruits. I enjoyed trying to make the right shape and get the right colour. (Millie)
I really liked making the big Christmas cake. I think it’s really exciting when you’re baking something you’ve never baked before and it turns out really well. (Lucy)
I enjoyed making everything especially the marzipan fruits. (Skye)
It goes without saying that for many of the bakers, the favourite part of each session involved sampling the food and licking the bowl at the end!
A huge thank you must go to Mrs Daly and Mrs Mitchell for all their hard work, preparation and for giving up their time to provide this amazing opportunity for our children.
